Photo A Day Project: Guanacaste, Costa Rica Beaches and More

I just started a blogspot entry where I am entering a photo a day that is about where I live in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This will go on indefinitely, or until it seems I have run out of subjects to that interest me and my audience.

But, in this particular picture article, I am complementing that effort with unique photos from Guanacaste, Costa Rica beaches and other tourist attractions. I have chose a mix of themes, some of which are from the fatmumslim web site topics for February 2013 and some of my own choosing for showing tourists what interesting things can be seen in this northwest province of Costa Rica.

Later this year, I will take some photos during a different season and do another photo a day article for HubPages to show off different aspects of this interesting country. I hope you find the photos interesting, as I have tried to make it as interesting as possible for myself. Sometimes I do modify the photos to enhance their presentation, using Adobe Photoshop CS4, as you will see below on the statue shown on Feb. 3rd. Enjoy!

As in words badly used. Although the education ministry reports a high literacy rate in Costa Rica, you find evidence of problems in this regard in many areas. It should be Se Vende Queso Seco, or Dry Cheese for Sale. If you are familiar with Spanish, there is little difference in the pronounced "v" and "b."

This statue is one of two found at the street entrance of the Jardin de Eden Hotel and Restaurant in Tamarindo Beach. The backdrop of the statue has been changed for dramatic effect.

If you are visiting the beaches of Guanacaste during the end of February and early march, you can visit the Fiestas Civicas of Liberia. It is a good time to see strangers on the street and learn a bit about the wild west culture here. Here is a photo of a man whose hat I admire. Guanacaste hats during this time have always fascinated me by their variety. Cloth, straw or leather. I like to take pictures of people with hats, there are so many different kinds here.

Bird watching along the beaches is one my hobbies. I have done a video of Pelicans and and I take photos. One of the birds that you commonly see is the robber jay, or urraca, as they are called in Costa Rica. They are very clever and bold, being able to open up containers and find the food inside. So watch you food that you take to the beach!

This is a front door, looking from the inside out from an old church in Liberia, la Ermita de Nuestro Señor de la Agonía. It is a tourist attraction which has been recently remodeled and painted, but it still has its adobe walls. It is adjacent to a small park which has a large, green concrete iguana facing one of the streets. I have enjoyed the process of doing this article and am continuing to that enjoyment in my ongoing project for my Guanacaste, Costa Rica site. If have the photo bug like I do, you should also consider doing a photo article like this and publish it. Why? For me, it has given me a whole new way to look at where I live and what we have here. Sometimes the photo subject for the day isn't very interesting, but the joy of the hunt and the use of the camera to get the best shot are good for training the eye and helping hone one's camera skills.

If you can, to improve your photos, I would recommend that you consider reading up on camera techniques or learning some photo editing skills while you are doing the project as well.
